To begin our 2025 Venue Visits, we’re beyond excited to share with you one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Atlanta, GA. You may have visited their museum previously and not even known it’s a wedding venue! Or perhaps you recognize the Swan House from a popular movie series, The Hunger Games. The well-known and loved Atlanta History Center located in Buckhead offers the widest variety of private event options at one convenient location and claims the spot of our first venue visit for 2025!
For our self-guided tour, we started off in the Atlanta History Museum, where we made our way to the Grand Overlook ballroom. It’s no wonder why this is one of the most sought-after ballrooms in Atlanta. With the barrel-vaulted ceiling, Brazilian cherry-wood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the magnificent Goizueta Gardens, this ballroom provides the perfect location for any spectacular evening event.
Immediately outside the museum are the Museum Terraces and Olguita’s Garden. These two spaces come as a pair and are an add-on to the Grand Overlook or Atlanta History Museum rental. The Museum Terraces, an outdoor amphitheater, makes for an absolutely gorgeous and unique location for a wedding ceremony or reception. The beautiful brick walkway down the center serves as a great aisle, and the Quarry Garden trees make a stunning backdrop.
For smaller weddings, Olguita’s Garden is a gorgeous and intimate ceremony choice. It also makes for a great location for photos with its florals that are designed to be in bloom year-round.
To finish out our tour, we took a short stroll to the absolutely stunning Swan House Gardens. Built in 1928, the historic Swan House Gardens is the dream location for all lovers of fairytale weddings. These gardens can only be used for weddings Friday-Sunday and are closed certain weeks of the year for maintenance.
The Swan House does not have a front and a back, it has “sides”; there’s the Fountain Side and the Column Side – luckily it’s easy to discern which is which. The Fountain Side is known for the large cascading fountain leading down to the gorgeous lawn out front. Reserved for ceremonies only, the Fountain Side is able to comfortably fit up to 300 guests. Furniture is not included outdoors, so all tables, chairs, etc. must be rented from an approved vendor.
The Column Side of the Swan House is named after the four magnificent columns that make up the focal point. This side can be used for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, or open-air receptions.
To the side of the Swan House, between the Fountain Side and the Column Side, lies the Boxwood Gardens. Featuring a fountain and an impressive statue, this smaller garden is perfect for cocktail hours and makes for great photos.
The Allen Atrium and the McElreath Hall within the Atlanta History Museum are also available as wedding rentals.
